Romains 15:4

4Car tout ce qui a été écrit autrefois a été écrit pour notre instruction, afin que, par la persévérance et par l'encouragement des Ecritures, nous ayons l'espérance. 

Dans les écrits du Nouveau Testament, chaque fois qu'ils font référence aux « Écritures », ils parlent de l'Ancien Testament. Au moment de la rédaction de la majorité du Nouveau Testament, seul l'Ancien Testament était disponible pour lecture et étude par les églises.

De nombreux chrétiens ont tendance à rester à l'écart de l'Ancien Testament, à l'exception des « bonnes parties » des histoires de la Genèse (Création, Noé, l'appel d'Abraham, Joseph et manteau de plusieurs couleurs), l'Exode (la vie de Moïse, les plaies, la traversée la mer Rouge, les dix commandements), les juges (Samson et Dalila), 1 et 2 Samuel (la vie du roi David, Salomon et ses nombreuses femmes), puis une pincée d'intérêt pour les Psaumes et les Proverbes et ensuite seulement un intérêt passager dans les livres prophétiques.

Nous devons prendre la parole de Paul à cœur. L'intégralité de l'Ancien Testament a été écrite pour nous donner une meilleure compréhension de qui est Dieu, qui est l'humanité et comment Dieu agit dans l'histoire. En étudiant l'Ancien Testament, nous arrivons à élargir notre compréhension de qui est Dieu. Pourquoi Il a fait les choses qu'Il a faites. Ce que, sur la base de cette connaissance, Dieu fera à l'avenir.

Comment pouvons-nous dire que nous servons le Dieu vivant si nous ne cherchons pas à connaître ce Dieu vivant ?

Plus vous lisez l'Ancien Testament, plus le Nouveau Testament commence à devenir clair. Les enseignements de Jésus étaient tous de l'Ancien Testament. Les auteurs du Nouveau Testament font de nombreuses références à l'Ancien Testament - puisque c'était leur seule Bible.

Nous lisons toutes les épreuves et tribulations ainsi que les victoires et les grands exploits de l'Ancien Testament afin de faire l'expérience de Dieu par procuration. Ensuite, lorsque nous faisons personnellement l'expérience de Dieu, nous avons un point de référence pour dire que c'est réellement Dieu qui travaille !

Comme Paul le soulignera à un autre moment, l'Ancien Testament indique la venue du Christ. Nous devons lire l'Ancien Testament pour mieux comprendre qui est Dieu et ce qu'il a fait par Jésus-Christ. Il est là pour nous aider à avoir une compréhension plus profonde et pour nous aider à nous rapprocher de Dieu.

Prière

Nous te remercions Seigneur pour ta parole. Que nous avons tant de façons d'accéder à la Bible aujourd'hui. Que nous pouvons non seulement le lire et l'étudier, mais que nous avons accès à des milliers d'années de notes d'autres personnes qui l'ont étudié. Puissions-nous plonger dans l'Ancien Testament pour découvrir ce que tu faisais il y a des milliers d'années. Afin que nous puissions mieux Te comprendre. Que tu ouvres nos cœurs et nos esprits pour voir comment tu nous aimes et que tu t'es donné beaucoup de mal pour que nous puissions être en communion avec toi.

Romans 15:4

4For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through the endurance taught in the Scriptures and the encouragement they provide we might have hope.

In the New Testament writings any time that they reference “the Scriptures” they are talking about the Old Testament.  At the time of the writing of the majority of the New Testament, only the Old Testament was available to read and study by the churches.  

Many Christians tend to stay away from the Old Testament except for the “good parts” the stories of Genesis (Creation, Noah, the Call of Abraham, Joseph and coat of many colors), Exodus (the life of Moses, the Plagues, Crossing the Red Sea, the Ten Commandments), Judges (Samson and Delilah), 1 and 2 Samuel (the life of King David, Solomon and his many wives), and then a sprinkling of interest in the Psalms and Proverbs and then only passing interest in the prophetic books.

We need to take Paul’s word to heart.  The entirety of the Old Testament was written to give us a fuller understanding of who God is, who humanity is, and how God works in history.  By studying the Old Testament we get to expand our understanding of who God is.  Why He did the things that He did.  What, based on that knowledge, God will do in the future.

How can we say that we serve the Living God if we do not seek to know that living God?   

The more you read the Old Testament, the more the New Testament begins to become clear.  Jesus’ teachings were all from the Old Testament.  The authors of the New Testament make multitudinous references to the Old Testament - since it was their only Bible.

We read about all the trials and tribulations as well as the victories and great feats in the Old Testament in order to vicariously experience God.  Then when we personally experience God we have a reference point to say this is actually God working!

As Paul will point out at another time, the Old Testament points to the coming of Christ.  We need to read the Old Testament to better understand who God is and what He did through Jesus Christ.  It is there to help us have a deeper understanding and to help us grow closer to God.

Prayer

We thank You Lord for Your word.  That we have so many ways to access the Bible today.  That we can not only read and study it, but that we have access to literally thousands of years of notes of others who have studied it.  May we delve into the Old Testament to find out what You were doing thousands of years ago.  That we may come to understand You better.  That You will open our hearts and our minds to see how You love us and have gone through great lengths so that we may have fellowship with You.

Katika maandishi ya Agano Jipya wakati wowote wanapotaja "Maandiko" wanazungumza juu ya Agano la Kale. Wakati wa kuandikwa kwa Agano Jipya, Agano la Kale tu lilikuwa linapatikana kusoma na kujifunza na makanisa.

Wakristo wengi huwa mbali na Agano la Kale isipokuwa kwa "sehemu nzuri" hadithi za Mwanzo (Uumbaji, Nuhu, Wito wa Ibrahimu, Yusufu na kanzu ya rangi nyingi), Kutoka (maisha ya Musa, Mapigo, Kuvuka Bahari Nyekundu, Amri Kumi), Majaji (Samsoni na Delilah), 1 na 2 Samweli (maisha ya Mfalme Daudi, Sulemani na wake zake wengi), na kisha kunyunyiziwa hamu ya Zaburi na Mithali na kisha kupitisha tu riba. katika vitabu vya unabii.

Tunahitaji kuchukua neno la Paulo moyoni. Ukamilifu wa Agano la Kale uliandikwa ili kutupa ufahamu kamili wa Mungu ni nani, ubinadamu ni nani, na jinsi Mungu anavyofanya kazi katika historia. Kwa kusoma Agano la Kale tunapata kupanua uelewa wetu juu ya Mungu ni nani. Kwa nini alifanya mambo ambayo alifanya. Ni nini, kulingana na maarifa hayo, Mungu atafanya katika siku zijazo.

Tunawezaje kusema kwamba tunamtumikia Mungu aliye hai ikiwa hatutafuti kumjua huyo Mungu aliye hai?

Kadiri unavyosoma Agano la Kale, ndivyo Agano Jipya linavyoanza kuwa wazi. Mafundisho ya Yesu yote yalikuwa kutoka Agano la Kale. Waandishi wa Agano Jipya hufanya marejeleo mengi juu ya Agano la Kale - kwa kuwa ilikuwa Biblia yao pekee.

Tunasoma juu ya majaribu na dhiki zote pamoja na ushindi na matendo makuu katika Agano la Kale ili kupata uzoefu wa Mungu. Halafu wakati sisi binafsi tunapata uzoefu wa Mungu tunayo rejea ya kusema kwamba hii ni kweli Mungu anafanya kazi!

Kama vile Paulo atakavyoonyesha wakati mwingine, Agano la Kale linaelekeza kwa kuja kwa Kristo. Tunahitaji kusoma Agano la Kale ili kuelewa vizuri Mungu ni nani na alifanya nini kupitia Yesu Kristo. Ipo kutusaidia kuwa na uelewa wa kina na kutusaidia kukua karibu na Mungu.

Maombi

Tunakushukuru Bwana kwa neno lako. Kwamba tuna njia nyingi sana za kupata Biblia leo. Kwamba hatuwezi tu kuisoma na kuisoma, lakini kwamba tunaweza kupata maandishi ya maelfu ya miaka ya wengine ambao wameisoma. Naomba tuchunguze Agano la Kale ili kujua kile Unachokuwa unafanya maelfu ya miaka iliyopita. Ili tuweze kukuelewa zaidi. Kwamba utafungua mioyo yetu na akili zetu kuona jinsi Unavyotupenda na umepitia urefu mwingi ili tuweze kuwa na ushirika na Wewe.
