1 Corinthiens 4:20

20Car le règne de Dieu n'est pas une affaire de paroles mais de puissance.

Paul n'est pas content de ce qui se passe dans l'église de Corinthe. Il y a ceux qui se vantent de qui leur a enseigné, d'où ils ont reçu leur message de la Bonne Nouvelle et qui a la meilleure interprétation des Écritures. Paul dit qu'il se vante de ses souffrances pour le Christ et ne peut que se vanter de la puissance du Christ pour changer des vies.

Où vous situez-vous? Êtes-vous fier du montant de l'offre que vous recevez? Comparez-vous votre église avec celle du bas de la rue et faites-vous remarquer à tout le monde que votre église est meilleure à cause de x, y et z? Vous vantez-vous de la qualité de votre ministère et le référencez-vous aux normes du monde?

Il y a une mesure du succès - la conquête des âmes à Jésus-Christ et l'édification de leaders pieux dans l'église. Ce n'est pas grave si vous avez des centaines de personnes qui viennent vous entendre prêcher ou enseigner si vous n'en avez pas qui abandonnent leur vie à Jésus comme leur Seigneur et Savoir; ou vous n'en avez pas qui ressentent l'appel au ministère, aux missions ou au bénévolat dans l'église.

Parler n'est pas cher. Chaque dimanche, vous pouvez allumer la télévision ou la radio et écouter des prédicateurs d'un million de dollars apaiser les plumes ébouriffées, aider les gens à se sentir bien dans leur peau et souligner que leur succès dans le monde est la preuve que Dieu les aime. Vous les entendez rarement prêcher sur le péché, le sacrifice ou la vérité que nous sommes dans ce monde mais que nous ne devons pas être de ce monde.

Le pouvoir est et ne vient que d'un seul endroit - Dieu. Le pouvoir du salut. Le pouvoir sur le péché et la tombe. Le pouvoir de donner la vie éternelle. Le pouvoir de remplir nos cœurs de la vraie joie, de la paix et de l'amour.

Prière

Cher Père céleste, nous savons que tout pouvoir vient de toi. Peu importe ce que nous disons, nous ne pouvons vraiment nous vanter que du pouvoir de la croix. Nous ne nous vantons pas de nous-mêmes, mais de votre amour et de votre grâce magnanime qui nous permettent d'être appelés vos enfants par la foi. Puissions-nous être des laveurs de pieds. Puissions-nous assister aux tables. Puissions-nous être ceux qui soulèvent les faibles, les boiteux, les fatigués, les opprimés, les méprisés, les solitaires et les endeuillés. Puissions-nous tout faire pour ta gloire afin que ton nom soit loué.

20For the kingdom of God does not consist in talk but in power. 

Paul is not happy with what is going on in the church at Corinth.  There are those who are boasting of who taught them, where they got their message of the Good News, and who has the best interpretation of Scripture.  Paul says he boasts in his sufferings for Christ and can only boast of the power of Christ to change lives.

Where do you stand?  Do you take pride in the amount of offering you receive?  Do you compare your church with the one down the street and point out to everyone that your church is better because of x, y, and z?  Do you boast about how well your ministry is doing and referencing it to the standards of the world?

There is one measurement for success - the winning of souls to Jesus Christ and the building up of Godly leaders in the church.  It does not matter if you have hundreds of people coming to hear you preach or teach if you do not have any who surrender their lives to Jesus as their Lord and Savoir; or you do not have any who feel the call to ministry, missions, or volunteering in the church.  

Talk is cheap.  Every Sunday you can turn on the TV or radio and listen to million-dollar preachers soothe ruffled feathers, help people to feel good about themselves, and point out that their worldly success is proof that God loves them.  You rarely hear them preach on sin, sacrifice, or the truth that we are in this world but are not to be of this world.

Power is in and only comes from one place - God.  The power of salvation.  The power over sin and the grave.  The power to give life everlasting.  The power to fill our hearts with true joy, peace, and love.

Prayer

Dear Heavenly Father, we know that all power comes from You.  No matter what we say, we can only truly boast in the power of the cross.  We boast not about ourselves, but about Your magnanimous love and grace that allows us to be called Your children through faith.  May we be washers of feet.  May we be attenders of tables.  May we be the ones lifting up the weak, the lame, the weary, the downtrodden, despised, lonely, and bereaved.  May we do it all for Your glory that Your name will be praised.

20Kwa kuwa Ufalme wa Mungu si maneno matupu tu bali ni nguvu.

Paulo hafurahii na kile kinachoendelea katika kanisa la Korintho. Kuna wale ambao wanajivunia ni nani aliyewafundisha, wapi walipata ujumbe wao wa Habari Njema, na ni nani aliye na tafsiri bora ya Maandiko. Paulo anasema anajisifu kwa mateso yake kwa ajili ya Kristo na anaweza kujivunia tu juu ya nguvu ya Kristo ya kubadilisha maisha.

Unasimama wapi? Je! Unajivunia kiwango cha utoaji unaopokea? Je! Unalinganisha kanisa lako na ile ya chini ya barabara na kumwelekeza kila mtu kuwa kanisa lako ni bora kwa sababu ya x, y, na z? Je! Unajisifu juu ya jinsi huduma yako inafanya vizuri na kuirejelea kwa viwango vya ulimwengu?

Kuna kipimo kimoja cha mafanikio - kushinda roho kwa Yesu Kristo na kujengwa kwa viongozi wacha Mungu kanisani. Haijalishi ikiwa una mamia ya watu wanaokuja kukusikia ukihubiri au kufundisha ikiwa huna yeyote ambaye anajitolea maisha yake kwa Yesu kama Bwana na Mwokozi wao; au huna yeyote anayehisi wito wa huduma, misheni, au kujitolea kanisani.

Mazungumzo ni ya bei rahisi. Kila Jumapili unaweza kuwasha Televisheni au redio na usikilize wahubiri wa dola milioni wakituliza manyoya yaliyoganda, kusaidia watu kujisikia vizuri juu yao, na kusema kuwa mafanikio yao ya kidunia ni uthibitisho kwamba Mungu anawapenda. Huwa unawasikia wakihubiri juu ya dhambi, dhabihu, au ukweli kwamba sisi tuko katika ulimwengu huu lakini hatupaswi kuwa wa ulimwengu huu.

Nguvu iko na inakuja tu kutoka sehemu moja - Mungu. Nguvu ya wokovu. Nguvu juu ya dhambi na kaburi. Nguvu ya kutoa uzima wa milele. Nguvu ya kujaza mioyo yetu na furaha ya kweli, amani, na upendo.

Maombi

Mpendwa Baba wa Mbinguni, tunajua kwamba nguvu zote zinatoka Kwako. Haijalishi tunachosema, tunaweza kujivunia tu kwa kweli kwa nguvu ya msalaba. Hatujisifu sisi wenyewe, lakini juu ya upendo wako mkubwa na neema ambayo inatuwezesha kuitwa watoto Wako kupitia imani. Naomba tuwe waoshaji wa miguu. Na tuwe wahudhuriaji wa meza. Na tuwe ndio tunainua wanyonge, vilema, waliochoka, waliodhulumiwa, waliodharauliwa, wapweke, na wafiwa. Naomba tufanye yote kwa utukufu wako kwamba jina lako litasifiwa.
