 1 Jean 2:15-17

15N'aimez point le monde, ni les choses qui sont dans le monde. Si quelqu'un aime le monde, l'amour du Père n'est point en lui;16car tout ce qui est dans le monde, la convoitise de la chair, la convoitise des yeux, et l'orgueil de la vie, ne vient point du Père, mais vient du monde.17Et le monde passe, et sa convoitise aussi; mais celui qui fait la volonté de Dieu demeure éternellement.

Eh bien, tant pis pour la prédication «santé et richesse» et «nom-le-et-revendique-le»! À quoi aspirez-vous? Les chrétiens devraient s'efforcer de faire la volonté de Dieu. Lire et étudier la Bible. Aider les autres. Construire une communauté au sein de la foi. Partager le message de l'Évangile.

Ce n'est pas un appel à l'ascèse. C'est un appel à rejeter les désirs que le diable a suspendus devant Jésus (Matthieu 4). Accumulation de pouvoir, de richesse, d'influence pour devenir les maîtres de nos vies. Toutes ces choses sont temporaires. Ils n'ont aucune signification éternelle.

C'est un péché d'être riche? Non. Est-ce un péché d'être en position d'autorité? Non. Est-ce un péché d'avoir une position influente? Non. C'est faire de ces choses le but principal, la chose principale dans votre vie qui est pécheresse. C'est être orgueilleux et se mettre au-dessus des autres qui est un péché. C'est être hautain et condescendant et ne pas traiter les autres avec respect qui est un péché.

Cherchez d'abord le Royaume de Dieu.

15Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, love for the Father  is not in them. 16For everything in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—comes not from the Father but from the world. 17The world and its desires pass away, but whoever does the will of God lives forever.

Well, so much for the “health and wealth” and “name-it-and-claim-it” preaching!  What are you striving for?  Christains should be striving to do the will of God.  Reading and studying the Bible.  Helping others.  Building community within the faith.  Sharing the Gospel message.

This is not a call to asceticism.  It is a call to reject the desires that the Devil dangled in front of Jesus (Matthew 4).  Accumulation of power, wealth, influence in order to make ourselves rulers of our lives.  All of those things are temporary.  They have no eternal significance.

It is a sin to be wealthy?  No.  Is it a sin to be in a position of authority?  No.  Is it a sin to have an influential position?  No.  It is making these things the main goal, the main thing in your life that is sinful.  It is being prideful and putting yourself above others that is sinful.  It is being haughty and condescending and not treating others with respect that is sinful.

Seek first the Kingdom of God.

1 Yohana 2:15-17

15Msiupende ulimwengu wala mambo yaliyo ulimwenguni. Kama mtu yeyote akiupenda ulimwengu, upendo wa Baba haumo ndani yake. 16Kwa maana kila kitu kilichomo ulimwenguni, yaani tamaa ya mwili, tamaa ya macho na kiburi cha uzima, havitokani na Baba bali hutokana na ulimwengu. 17Nao ulimwengu unapita, pamoja na tamaa zake, bali yeye afanyaye mapenzi ya Mungu adumu milele.

Kweli, ni mengi kwa mahubiri ya "afya na utajiri" na "jina-na-dai-hilo"! Unajitahidi nini? Christain wanapaswa kujitahidi kufanya mapenzi ya Mungu. Kusoma na kusoma Biblia. Kusaidia wengine. Kujenga jamii ndani ya imani. Kushiriki ujumbe wa Injili.

Huu sio wito wa kujinyima. Ni wito wa kukataa tamaa ambazo Ibilisi alining'inia mbele ya Yesu (Mathayo 4). Kukusanya nguvu, utajiri, ushawishi ili kujifanya watawala wa maisha yetu. Vitu vyote hivyo ni vya muda. Hawana umuhimu wa milele.

Ni dhambi kuwa tajiri? Hapana. Je! Ni dhambi kuwa katika nafasi ya mamlaka? Hapana. Je! Ni dhambi kuwa na msimamo wenye ushawishi? Hapana. Ni kufanya vitu hivi kuwa lengo kuu, jambo kuu maishani mwako ambalo ni dhambi. Ni kujivuna na kujiweka juu ya wengine ambayo ni dhambi. Ni kujivuna na kujishusha na sio kuwatendea wengine kwa heshima ambayo ni dhambi.

Utafute kwanza Ufalme wa Mungu.
