Hébreux 6:11-12

11Mais nous désirons que chacun de vous fasse preuve du même zèle jusqu'à la fin, afin que votre espérance se réalise pleinement. 12Ne devenez donc pas paresseux pour comprendre, mais suivez l'exemple des personnes qui croient avec persévérance et qui reçoivent ainsi ce que Dieu a promis.

La foi est quelque chose que nous devons lutter chaque jour. Ce n'est pas seulement un souhait ou un désir, mais la compréhension qu'il y a quelque chose de surnaturel, au-delà de notre compréhension et de notre contrôle, que Dieu fait dont nous faisons partie. La foi aveugle fait simplement quelque chose parce qu'on vous a dit qu'il en était ainsi sans aucune confirmation. Une foi informée voit des preuves qui donnent un aperçu des raisons de la fondation de la foi.

Un enfant a confiance que ses parents l'attraperont quand elle tombera en essayant de faire ses premiers pas. La plupart du temps, l'enfant s'agrippera à quelque chose de solide ou s'agrippera à une main ou un doigt et prendra des mesures prudentes. Bien que l'enfant n'ait aucune expérience ou connaissance préalable du fait que le parent continuera à s'accrocher, l'enfant prend les mesures de toute façon. Lorsque le parent retire la main, l'enfant ne panique pas et n'entre pas dans un état induit par la peur. L'enfant peut montrer de l'inquiétude, mais continue d'essayer de passer à l'étape suivante. C'est la foi éclairée. L'enfant est réconforté par la seule présence de ses parents. Le parent n’a pas à tenir la main de l’enfant tout le temps. Les expériences passées de l'enfant lui ont montré qu'elle est en sécurité avec ses parents. Il n'y a pas d'explication longue à l'enfant que le parent est à proximité. L'enfant a simplement la foi. Ce n'est pas une foi aveugle, mais une foi basée sur des expériences antérieures. L'enfant fait toujours les pas en avant sans une main ferme. Pourquoi, parce qu'elle voit son autre parent les bras grands ouverts lui faisant signe.

Nous, chrétiens, sommes comme cet enfant. Nous voyons la pleine assurance de l'espoir final. Nous avons la promesse que Jésus reviendra et qu'à ce moment-là, il y aura une grande joie et une grande fête pour ceux qui ont accepté Jésus-Christ comme leur Seigneur et savoir. Nous avons cette assurance.

Mais nous devons avoir une foi éclairée et continuer à approfondir cette foi jusqu'à ce que ce moment arrive. Nous faisons cela non pas principalement à travers nos propres expériences personnelles, mais en voyant la fidélité de Dieu à travers ses interactions dans la Bible. Notre foi doit être fondée sur quelque chose. Pas simplement parce qu'on nous a dit que nous devons avoir la foi. Pas simplement parce qu'on nous dit que nous devons croire parce que quelqu'un nous a dit de le faire. Nous devons enraciner notre foi dans ce que Dieu nous dit de lui-même dans la Bible. Une foi informée est une foi qui pose des questions et cherche des réponses en étudiant la Bible de manière persistante et continue. Nous ne trouverons pas de réponses à toutes nos questions. Parfois, nos questions sont tout simplement les mauvaises questions à poser.

En étudiant la Bible, nous voyons un aperçu de qui est Dieu et de ce que Dieu veut que nous soyons. Cela englobe notre compréhension de nous-mêmes et la façon dont nous devons changer pour devenir davantage comme le Christ.

Prière:

Cher Seigneur, je Te prie d'ouvrir les yeux afin que je puisse voir par la foi les choses que tu veux que je voie et que je fasse. Je prie pour que pendant que j'étudie ta Parole, le Saint-Esprit examine mon cœur et mon esprit pour me montrer où et comment j'ai besoin de changer pour être le mieux que je peux en étant ton serviteur.

Hebrew 6:11-12

11And we desire each one of you to show the same earnestness to have the full assurance of hope until the end, 12so that you may not be sluggish, but imitators of those who through faith and patience inherit the promises.

Faith is something that we need to strive for each day.  It is not only a wish or a desire, but the understanding that there is something supernatural, beyond our understanding and control that God is doing of which we are a part.  Blind faith is just doing something because you have been told it is so without any confirmation.  Informed faith is seeing evidence that gives glimpses of the reasons for the foundation of the faith.  

A child has faith that her parents will catch her when she falls attempting to take her first steps.  Most times, the child will grab on to something solid or hold onto a hand or finger and take cautious steps.  Although the child has no prior experience or knowledge that the parent will continue to hold on, the child takes the steps anyway.  When the parent takes the hand away, the child does not panic nor go into a fear induced state.  The child may show concern, but still continues to attempt to take the next step.  This is informed faith.  The child is comforted by just the presence of her parent.  The parent does not have to hold the child’s hand the entire time.  Past experiences of the child have demonstrated to her that she is safe and secure with her parent.  There is no long explanation to the child that the parent is in close proximity.  The child simply has faith.  It is not a blind faith, but one based on prior experiences.  The child still takes the steps forward without a steadying hand.  Why, because she sees her other parent with arms wide open beckoning her.

We Christians are like this child.  We see the full assurance of the end hope.  We have the promise that Jesus will come again and that at that time there will be great joy and celebration for those who have accepted Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savoir.  We have that assurance.

But we must have an informed faith and keep deepening that faith until that time comes.  We do that not primarily through our own personal experiences, but through seeing the faithfulness of God throughout His interactions in the Bible.   Our faith must be founded upon something.  Not simply because we have been told that we must have faith.  Not simply because we are told that we must believe because someone told us to do so.  We must root our faith in what God tells us about Himself in the Bible.  An informed faith is a faith that asks questions and seeks the answers by persistently and continually studying the Bible.  We will not find answers to all of our questions.  Sometimes our questions are simply the wrong questions to ask.

As we study the Bible, we see the glimpses of who God is and what God wants us to be.  It encompases our understanding of ourselves and how we need to change in order to become more like Christ.

Prayer:

Dear Lord, I pray that You open my eyes that I may see by faith the things You want me to see and do.  I pray that as I study Your Word that the Holy Spirit would examine my heart and my mind to show me where and how I need to change to be the best I can in being Your servant.

11Nasi twataka kila mmoja wenu aonyeshe bidii iyo hiyo ili mpate kujua uhakika kamili wa lile tumaini mpaka mwisho, 12ili msije mkawa wavivu, bali mpate kuwaiga wale ambao kwa imani na saburi hurithi zile ahadi.

Imani ni kitu ambacho tunahitaji kujitahidi kwa kila siku. Sio tu matakwa au hamu, lakini ufahamu kwamba kuna kitu kisicho cha kawaida, zaidi ya ufahamu wetu na udhibiti ambao Mungu anafanya ambao sisi ni sehemu yake. Imani kipofu ni kufanya tu kitu kwa sababu umeambiwa ni hivyo bila uthibitisho wowote. Imani iliyojulishwa ni kuona ushahidi ambao unatoa mwangaza wa sababu za msingi wa imani.

Mtoto ana imani kwamba wazazi wake watamkamata atakapoanguka akijaribu kuchukua hatua zake za kwanza. Mara nyingi, mtoto atashika kitu kilicho ngumu au kushikilia mkono au kidole na kuchukua hatua za tahadhari. Ingawa mtoto hana uzoefu wa awali au maarifa ambayo mzazi ataendelea kushikilia, mtoto huchukua hatua hata hivyo. Wakati mzazi anachukua mkono, mtoto haogopi wala kwenda katika hali inayosababishwa na hofu. Mtoto anaweza kuonyesha wasiwasi, lakini bado anaendelea kujaribu kuchukua hatua inayofuata. Hii ni imani sahihi. Mtoto anafarijika na uwepo tu wa mzazi wake. Mzazi sio lazima ashike mkono wa mtoto wakati wote. Uzoefu wa zamani wa mtoto umeonyesha kwake kwamba yuko salama na salama na mzazi wake. Hakuna maelezo marefu kwa mtoto kwamba mzazi yuko karibu. Mtoto ana imani tu. Sio imani ya kipofu, lakini moja kulingana na uzoefu wa hapo awali. Mtoto bado anachukua hatua mbele bila mkono wa utulivu. Kwa nini, kwa sababu anamwona mzazi wake mwingine akiwa ameweka mikono wazi akimwashiria.

Sisi Wakristo ni kama mtoto huyu. Tunaona uhakika kamili wa tumaini la mwisho. Tuna ahadi kwamba Yesu atakuja tena na kwamba wakati huo kutakuwa na furaha na sherehe kubwa kwa wale waliompokea Yesu Kristo kama Bwana na Mwokozi wao. Tunayo hakikisho hilo.

Lakini lazima tuwe na imani inayofahamika na tuendelee kuimarisha imani hiyo hadi wakati huo ufike. Hufanyi hivyo sio hasa kupitia uzoefu wetu wa kibinafsi, lakini kwa kuona uaminifu wa Mungu wakati wa mwingiliano wake katika Biblia. Imani yetu lazima ijengewe juu ya kitu. Sio tu kwa sababu tumeambiwa kwamba lazima tuwe na imani. Sio tu kwa sababu tumeambiwa kwamba lazima tuamini kwa sababu mtu fulani ametuambia tufanye hivyo. Lazima tuzike imani yetu kwa kile Mungu anatuambia juu yake katika Biblia. Imani inayofahamishwa ni imani inayouliza maswali na kutafuta majibu kwa kuendelea kusoma na kuendelea kusoma Biblia. Hatutapata majibu ya maswali yetu yote. Wakati mwingine maswali yetu ni maswali mabaya tu ya kuuliza.

Tunapojifunza Biblia, tunaona vielelezo vya Mungu ni nani na kile Mungu anataka tuwe. Inajumuisha ufahamu wetu juu yetu wenyewe na jinsi tunavyohitaji kubadilika ili kuwa kama Kristo.

Mpendwa Bwana, ninaomba Unifungue macho yangu ili nipate kuona kwa imani mambo ambayo unataka nione na kufanya. Ninaomba kwamba ninapojifunza Neno Lako kwamba Roho Mtakatifu achunguze moyo wangu na akili yangu ili anionyeshe ni wapi na jinsi ninahitaji kubadilika kuwa bora ninavyoweza katika kuwa mtumishi Wako.
