Hébreux 4:12  

12En effet, la parole de Dieu est vivante et efficace. Elle est plus coupante qu'aucune épée à deux tranchants. Elle pénètre jusqu'au point où elle sépare l'âme et l'esprit, les jointures et la moelle. Elle passe au crible les désirs et les pensées du cœur humain. 

Lorsque nous sommes confrontés à la vérité, nous avons deux choix: 1) nous l'acceptons et nous changeons pour nous y adapter ou 2) nous la rejetons et continuons à l'ignorer. Il n'y a pas de troisième choix.

Ces dernières années, il est devenu à la mode de dire que la vérité est subjective. L'expression «ma vérité» est entrée dans l'usage quotidien. En toute honnêteté, il n'y a pas de «vérité personnelle». Il y a simplement la vérité. Cela ne change pas. Il ne se plie pas à la fantaisie de la mode ou des tendances. Il ne se contorsionne pour rien justifier. C'est la vérité qu'il y a deux sexes - ceux qui ont XX chromosomes sont des femmes; ceux qui ont des chromosomes XY sont des hommes. Cela est vrai dans tout le règne animal. C'est également vrai pour plus de la moitié du règne végétal. C'est la vérité que pour procréer, un mammifère mâle doit avoir des relations sexuelles avec une femelle mammifère. Aucun mammifère mâle ne peut avoir d'enfant. Ce n'est que la femme qui a les organes pour le faire. Ce sont des vérités.

Dieu est l'auteur de la vérité. Il y a des absolus. Appeler une pomme une tomate ne fait pas de la pomme une tomate. Il y a du bien et du mal. Il y a du péché et il y a la justice.

Nous arrivons à comprendre et à connaître la vérité en lisant et en étudiant la Bible. Comment savons-nous que quelque chose que nous lisons ou étudions dans la Bible est vrai? Parce qu'il dit que c'est vrai. Beaucoup appellent ce raisonnement circulaire. D'une certaine manière c'est le cas. Mais nous savons aussi que la Bible est vraie en raison de sa longévité. Certaines parties de la Bible ont été écrites il y a plus de 4000 ans. La Bible est le livre le plus étudié de l'histoire. De nombreux non-croyants ont passé toute leur carrière à essayer de réfuter des choses dans la Bible. Il y en a beaucoup aujourd'hui qui disent que la Bible est simplement démodée et désuète. Pourtant, il y a littéralement des millions de personnes qui lisent et étudient la Bible chaque jour et trouvent l'enseignement, l'encouragement, l'assurance et la vérité dans ses pages.

La Parole de Dieu change encore des vies. La parole de Dieu nous interpelle encore. La parole de Dieu perce encore nos cœurs endurcis. Pourquoi? Parce que les histoires, les personnages et les situations, les prières et les louanges, les poèmes et les confessions et tous les autres genres et styles littéraires de la Bible nous disent la Vérité. La Bible nous montre qui est Dieu et qui nous sommes par rapport à Dieu.

Nous pouvons vivre dans un monde où nous avons d'énormes bâtiments qui s'élèvent dans le ciel, des véhicules qui peuvent nous transporter des centaines et des milliers de kilomètres, une technologie qui nous permet de communiquer instantanément avec n'importe qui dans le monde; mais nous ne sommes encore que des humains. Quand nous regardons la vraie représentation des gens dans la Bible, nous reconnaissons leurs sentiments et leurs émotions parce que nous avons ces sentiments et émotions. De plus, la Bible montre la fermeté de qui est Dieu. La parole de Dieu est aussi tranchante qu'une épée finement aiguisée parce qu'elle s'adresse à nous avec audace, ouvertement et honnêtement. Il nous confronte à la vérité.

Si nous sommes sensibles à Dieu. Si nous permettons à Dieu de nous modeler et de nous changer, la Bible fonctionne comme un sécateur et comme une pierre à aiguiser. Il coupe les parties mortes ou sans issue de nos vies. Ces domaines dont nous n'avons pas besoin et qui nous enlèvent notre énergie pour servir Dieu. Il prend également les zones ternes et émoussées et les aiguisées en un bord tranchant fin.

Prière:

Seigneur, laisse Ta Parole couper ces domaines de ma vie qui ne te plaisent pas ou qui ne te sont pas utiles. Puissé-je devenir faible et malléable afin que vous puissiez me façonner en ce que vous voulez que je sois.

12For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart. 

When we are confronted with The Truth, we have two choices:  1)  we accept it and change to adapt to it or 2) we reject it and continue to ignore it.  There is no third choice.  

In recent years it has become fashionable to talk about truth being subjective.  The phrase “my truth” has come into daily usage.  In all honesty, there is no “personal truth.”  There is simply The Truth.  It does not change.  It does not bend to the whimsy of fashion or trends.  It does not contort itself to justify anything.  It is Truth that there are two sexes - those who have XX chromosomes are female; those who have XY chromosomes are male.  This is true throughout the animal kingdom.  It is also true for over half of the plant kingdom.  It is The Truth that to procreate, a male mammal must have intercourse with a female mammal.  No male mammal can bear a child.  It is only the female who has the organs to do so.  These are Truths.  

God is the author of Truth.  There are absolutes.  Calling an apple a tomato does not make the apple a tomato.  There is right and wrong.  There is sin and there is righteousness.

We come to understand and know The Truth by reading and studying the Bible.  How do we know something we read or study in the Bible is true?  Because it says it is True.  Many call this circular reasoning.  In a manner it is.  But we also know the Bible is True because of its longevity.  Some parts of the Bible were written over 4000 years ago.  The Bible is the most studied book in history.  Many non-believers have spent their whole careers trying to disprove things in the Bible.  There are many today who say that the Bible is just old-fashioned and out of date.  Yet, there are literally millions of people who read and study the Bible every day and find teaching, encouragement, assurance, and Truth within its pages.

God’s Word still changes lives.  God’s word still challenges us.  God’s word still pierces our hardened hearts.  Why?  Because the stories and characters and situations and prayers and praises and poems and confessions and all the other genres and literary styles in the Bible tell us the Truth.  The Bible shows us who God is and who we are in relation to God.

We may live in a world where we have huge buildings that reach up into the sky, vehicles that can carry us hundreds and thousands of miles, technology that allows us to communicate instantly with anyone around the world; but we are still only humans.  When we look at the true portrayal of people in the Bible, we recognize their feelings and emotions because we have those feelings and emotions.  Furthermore, the Bible shows the steadfastness of who God is.  The word of God is as sharp as a finely honed sword because it addresses us boldly and openly and honestly.  It confronts us with The Truth.

If we are sensitive to God.  If we allow God to mold us and change us, the Bible works as pruning shears and as a whet rock.  It cuts off the dead or dead-end portions of our lives.  Those areas that we do not need and that take away our energy for serving God.  It also takes the dull, blunted areas and whets them to a fine sharp edge.

Prayer:

Lord, let Your Word cut away those areas of my life that are not pleasing or useful to You.  May I become weak and malleable so that You may shape me into who You want me to be.

12Kwa maana Neno la Mungu li hai tena lina nguvu. Lina makali kuliko upanga wowote wenye makali kuwili, hivyo linachoma hata kuzigawanya nafsi na roho, viungo na mafuta yaliyo ndani yake; tena li jepesi kuyatambua mawazo na makusudi ya moyo. 

Tunapokabiliwa na Ukweli, tuna chaguzi mbili: 1) tunaikubali na hubadilika kuizoea au 2) tunaikataa na kuendelea kuipuuza. Hakuna chaguo la tatu.

Katika miaka ya hivi karibuni imekuwa ya mtindo kuzungumza juu ya ukweli kuwa wa kibinafsi. Maneno "ukweli wangu" umeanza kutumiwa kila siku. Kwa uaminifu wote, hakuna "ukweli wa kibinafsi." Kuna ukweli tu. Haibadiliki. Hainami kwa kupendeza kwa mitindo au mwelekeo. Haijilazimishi kuhalalisha chochote. Ni Ukweli kwamba kuna jinsia mbili - wale ambao wana kromosomu XX ni wa kike; wale ambao wana kromosomu za XY ni wa kiume. Hii ni kweli wakati wote wa ufalme wa wanyama. Ni kweli pia kwa zaidi ya nusu ya ufalme wa mmea. Ni Ukweli kwamba ili kuzaa, mamalia wa kiume lazima afanye tendo la ndoa na mnyama wa kike. Hakuna mamalia wa kiume anayeweza kuzaa mtoto. Ni mwanamke tu ambaye ana viungo vya kufanya hivyo. Hizi ni Kweli.

Mungu ndiye mwandishi wa Ukweli. Kuna mitazamo. Kuita apple nyanya hakufanyi apple nyanya. Kuna sahihi na mbaya. Kuna dhambi na kuna haki.

Tunakuja kuelewa na kujua Ukweli kwa kusoma na kusoma Biblia. Tunajuaje kitu tunachosoma au kujifunza katika Biblia ni kweli? Kwa sababu inasema ni kweli. Wengi huita hoja hii ya mviringo. Kwa namna ilivyo. Lakini pia tunajua Biblia ni ya Kweli kwa sababu ya maisha yake marefu. Sehemu zingine za Biblia ziliandikwa zaidi ya miaka 4000 iliyopita. Biblia ni kitabu kilichojifunza zaidi katika historia. Watu wengi wasioamini wametumia kazi zao zote kujaribu kukanusha mambo katika Biblia. Kuna watu wengi leo ambao wanasema kwamba Biblia ni ya kizamani na imepitwa na wakati. Walakini, kuna mamilioni ya watu ambao husoma na kusoma Biblia kila siku na kupata mafundisho, kutiwa moyo, uhakikisho, na Ukweli ndani ya kurasa zake.

Neno la Mungu bado hubadilisha maisha. Neno la Mungu bado linatupa changamoto. Neno la Mungu bado linapenya mioyo yetu migumu. Kwa nini? Kwa sababu hadithi na wahusika na hali na sala na sifa na mashairi na maungamo na aina zingine zote na mitindo ya fasihi katika Biblia hutuambia Ukweli. Biblia inatuonyesha Mungu ni nani na sisi ni nani katika uhusiano na Mungu.

Tunaweza kuishi katika ulimwengu ambao tuna majengo makubwa yanayofikia angani, magari ambayo yanaweza kutubeba mamia na maelfu ya maili, teknolojia inayoturuhusu kuwasiliana mara moja na mtu yeyote ulimwenguni; lakini bado sisi ni wanadamu tu. Tunapoangalia uonyeshaji halisi wa watu katika Biblia, tunatambua hisia zao na hisia zao kwa sababu tuna hisia na hisia hizo. Kwa kuongezea, Biblia inaonyesha msimamo wa Mungu ni nani. Neno la Mungu ni kali kama upanga uliosukwa vizuri kwa sababu hutuambia kwa ujasiri na wazi na kwa uaminifu. Inatukabili na Ukweli.

Ikiwa tunamujali Mungu. Ikiwa tunamruhusu Mungu atufinyange na kutubadilisha, Biblia hufanya kazi kama ukataji wa kupogoa na kama mwamba. Inakata sehemu zilizokufa au za mwisho za maisha yetu. Sehemu hizo ambazo hatuhitaji na ambazo zinachukua nguvu zetu kwa kumtumikia Mungu. Inachukua pia maeneo yenye wepesi, yaliyopindika na kuyasukuma kwa makali makali.
